Launching event of the ‘YOUTH REACTION’ program in the Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades to activate young people

The Active Citizens Fund program entitled Youth Reaction aims to educate and empower young people living in remote areas, and to promote their active participation in civic life, through democratic processes. Specifically, young people aged 18 to 30 years old within the framework of YOUTH REACTION, living in the Municipalities of Zitsa, Servia, Nea Propontida and Naxos and the Small Cyclades, will be trained on ways of engaging with the public and decision-making processes, will form Youth Councils, where they will speak, exchange ideas and opinions and finally, will co-shape a local agenda with policy proposals that can be implemented in the Municipalities in which they live.

At the same time, the following results will be produced during the project:

  • Creation of a methodology for youth activation and participation in civic affairs
  • Development of a training program and educational material for young people
  • Implementation of an e-learning program for young people
  • Creation of a local agenda with policy proposals for Local Government and the organization of an open dialogue roundtable discussion

In more detail, on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, the opening event of the Active citizens fund program entitled YOUTH REACTION (YOUTH in REmote areas become ACTive citizens and take actION) will take place in the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades, at the Municipal Office (Municipal Council meeting room), at 16.30, during which the issue of youth activation in the world of social entrepreneurship and their support with digital systems and new technology tools will be approached.

The YOUTH REACTION project is implemented within the framework of the Active citizens fund program, with the implementing body being IASIS AmKE and partners being the EGTC Euxini Polis – Network of European Cities for Sustainable Development, the HORIZON – CENTER OF RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION.

The Active citizens fund program, amounting to € 13.5 million, is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and is part of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) for the period 2014 – 2021, known as EEA Grants. The program aims to strengthen and enhance the sustainability of civil society and highlight its role in promoting democratic processes, enhancing citizen participation in civic life and defending human rights. The Active Citizens Fund grant for Greece is jointly managed by the Bodossakis Foundation and SolidarityNow.
